We Now Offer Electrolysis!

Ala performs Electrolysis at Body Restoration Spa.

About Electrolysis

Since Laser Hair Removal has taken the world by storm, you don’t hear about Electrolysis (a form of permanent hair removal) as much anymore. However, there are people who may not be candidates for Laser Hair Removal and still need to go the Electrolysis route. Laser Hair Removal requires a client to have fair skin and dark hair for it to be successful. If you have fair skin and light hair or brown skin and dark hair, you may not be successful with Laser Hair Removal. However, you are a perfect candidate for Electrolysis! Electrolysis is the only form of permanent hair removal approved by the FDA. Electrolysis is used to remove hair, follicle by follicle. After a very fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle, a short-wave current is sent to the hair follicle to destroy it. The hair is then removed with tweezers. In Electrolysis at Body Restoration Spa, we use Thermolysis.

An Electrologist (one who perform Electrolysis) is hard to come these days as Laser is more common. We have a veteran in the hair removal business as our Electrologist here at Body Restoration Spa. Her name is Ala. She was an Electrologist at a well-known Electrolysis center which recently closed their Philadelphia office. Ala is here Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays. You may schedule online or call the spa to schedule with Ala.

While the concept of the gua sha facial has blossomed in terms of popularity over the last couple of years, the tools at the heart of this practice have been at work for centuries.

Gua sha (pronounced “gwah shah”) is a treatment that uses a flat jade stone that is lightly grazed over your skin. It’s derived from traditional Chinese medicine. It is similar to acupuncture in that it’s rooted in the idea of promoting qi, the flow and balance of the body’s energy.

Some potential gua sha facial benefits include:

How to Cope with Stress During the Holidays

It’s something we hear all the time when clients come in for a pre-holiday massage.

Us: All ready for the holidays?

Them: Ugh! I wish!

For a time of year that’s ostensibly about celebration and feelings of good will, the stretch between Thanksgiving and the New Year can feel awful demanding. We need to shop, cook, clean, travel, socialize and welcome guests, all while still handling day-to-day life.

Aromatherapy Benefits: How Plant Oils Can Help You Heal

The next time you walk out of an aromatherapy appointment feeling refreshed, take a moment to thank a man named Avicenna.

Avicenna was a Persian physician, astronomer and thinker whose 11th-century work, The Canon of Medicine, served as the standard medical text well into the 1600s. He’s also credited with developing the distillation methods used in modern aromatherapy.

But how did aromatherapy come about? We’ll answer that question below and discuss some aromatherapy benefits in the process.

What is a Swedish Massage?

We’ve written quite a bit on this blog about the benefits of a good massage, how it can alleviate back pain, lessen depression and anxiety, and help us recover from our workouts.

But not all massages are the same. There’s deep tissue massage, for example, for people who are experienced massage goers, and things like hot stone massage, where a masseuse uses intense heat to help release tension.

And then there’s Swedish massage, perhaps the most popular member of the massage family.
