Cupping therapy involves the use of cups to create suction on your skin. This suction stimulates muscle and fascia tissue, increases blood flow, and helps relieve tension. The massage therapist will create a vacuum on your skin with the cups by using a manual pump. When the cup is placed on your skin, the natural vacuum draws your skin in to begin the cupping therapy. Cupping is a release using suction to pull blood and fluid that is “stuck” (which includes toxins and waste products) to the surface layers of the dermis to put it back into the blood stream for processing. The newly oxygenated blood then flows back into an area to promote healing.
